    GROUND was broken in the Zhuhai Free Trade Zone on Wednesday for a new plant for Coloplast (China) Ltd funded by Denmark-based Coloplast Group at $100 million. The plant, to be constructed in three phases, will manufacture all categories of Coloplast products of and become the largest production centre of the company in the world.
    Coloplast (China), founded in 1995 in Zhuhai, is the group production centre of the Asia-Pacific region mainly focusing on ostomy, wound and continence care. It has set up marketing offices in 18 cities throughout China. Its current plant is in Xiawan, Gongbei. The first phase of the new plant is to have 1,500 employees with an annual output value of $1.3 billion upon completion next year.
    Founded in 1957, Coloplast is a medical device company that also develops, markets and sells products and services within business areas such as breast care and skin care. Coloplast obtained listing on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange in 1983. It has production bases in China, Germany, Hungry and the US and branches in 22 countries.
