NEARLY 25,000 first-year college students are expected at Zhuhai University Town for the new term, which will drive the total number to 63,000 on- campus students on the seven university campuses.
Beijing Normal University Zhuhai Branch, Beijing Institute of Technology Zhuhai and Jilin University Zhuhai have respectively reserved 15 per cent of their enrolment quota for local candidates, who are beneficiaries of 50 per cent tuition discount.
Needy college students are to get a subsidy of 1,000 yuan ($121) per year, needy students of high schools, including technical secondary schools, technical schools and vocational schools, 800 yuan ($97) and junior high school and primary school students 500 yuan ($60.60).
The Dreams Come True Initiative sponsored by the municipal Communist Youth League benefited 22 poor high school graduates who are enrolled by colleges. Outperforming needy students can obtain a stipend of 8,000 yuan ($969.70) to 12,000 yuan ($1,455) annually. At the same time, first-group 69 poverty-stricken students benefit from a city government subsidy for college tuition. Each three-year college student is eligible for a one-off subsidy of 4,000 yuan ($485) and each four-year college student 6,000 yuan ($727).                  (ZD News)
