OCEAN Spring Resort will be included in the tourist statistics forecast and report system along with other renowned tourist attractions such as Jiuzhaigou, Sichuan Province, and Potala Palace, Tibet, and will be promoted on CCTV and the website of the China National Tourism Administration beginning this National Day Holiday golden week. It is reportedly the first tourist attraction in Guangdong to be covered by the system. The tourist statistics forecast and report of nationwide major tourist attractions began in 2000 to provide real-time valid information for governments at all levels, the news media and tourists. The information encompasses capacity of the tourist attractions and scenic spots, tourist number forecast and daily number of visitors. The system covers 39 tourist cities and 32 tourist attractions across the country. Among all the natural views, Zhuhai Ocean Spring Resort is the only built leisure and holidaymaking resort. Beach Party slated THE 4th Zhuhai Love & Share Beach Party will be held October 4 - 5 with Haibin Beach as the primary site and other events at Zhuhai Ocean Spring Resort. Domestically celebrated TV serial director You Xiaogang will serve as chief director, it was announced at a press conference in Beijing on August 26. The Zhuhai Tourism Administration signed an agreement with the Beijing Zhongbei TV Art Centre at the conference to join hands with Zhongbei International Culture Development to prepare for the event. The company said it would take advantage of its singing and dancing resources for the betterment of the party. Domestic pop stars and some famous Hong Kong and Macao DJs will be invited to perform. The 4th Love & Share Beach Party is listed as one of the major events during the 2006 Guangdong International Festival. Economy on the rise THE SEZ's large-scale industrial-added value hit 20.37 billion yuan ($2.47 billion) in the first seven months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 24.9 per cent. The increase rate of the industrial- added value of home and electrical appliances, electronics and information and precision machinery manufacturing industries exceeded 20 per cent. Imports and exports topped $17.93 billion in the first seven months, a 32 per cent rise from last year. Exports were $7.79 billion and imports $10.44 billion, up 40.1 and 26.4 per cent respectively. The increase rate of exports by inland-invested businesses was 42.7 per cent, 3.2 percentage more than that by foreign-funded enterprises. A total of 385 foreign-funded projects were approved while actually utilized direct foreign investment reached $482 million, up 31.9 and 41.9 per cent respectively. Investments in fixed assets totaled 13.38 billion yuan ($1.62 billion) in the first seven months, a 17.3 per cent increase. Investments in real estate and renovation projects rose by 22.8 and 15.5 per cent respectively. CEPA paying off A TOTAL of 124 entrepreneurs, including 96 from Macao and 28 from Hong Kong, have acquired self-employed business licenses from the Zhuhai Administration for Industry & Commerce since the implementation of the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) on January 1, 2004. Most of them registered in the wholesale industry, accounting for 83 per cent of the total, and catering industry. Self-employed Hong Kong and Macao residents running businesses in Zhuhai have 310 employees. In addition, the administration has handled inquiries of more than 1,200 people from the two special administrative regions. CEPA Green Channels have been set up at various business registration counters to handle qualified applications and issue the licenses on the day, which has greatly delighted the Hong Kong and Macao investors. Terminal being renovated SOME 32 million yuan ($3.88 million) was invested to reinforce the Doumen Port Freight Terminal where two 3,000-tonne berths are under construction in order to open in the first half of next year. The completion of the two berths will add 12,000sqm to the storage yard, bringing it to 53,000sqm. At the same time, 46,690sqm will be expanded at the storage yard opposite the terminal, which is to be completed by the end of this year. Moreover, the existing warehouse will be torn apart for the construction of a new bulk cargo warehouse of up to 3,500sqm. Two 45-tonne shore cranes will be purchased and other up-to-date ship container loading and unloading facilities will be added to improve efficiency. Some 28,370 TEUs were handled in the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of 8.06 per cent. Elder homecare begins EIGHTEEN senior citizens covered by the Gongbei Subdistrict Office became the city's first home-based elder care service beneficiaries on Wednesday. They can receive day care, full-time care, dining help, nursing, physical checkups and other standardized services at home. This is the home-based elder care service pilot in the city. The 18 people, all above age of 65, have their own residences. Some are needy and living alone, some are veterans or relatives of revolutionary martyrs, and some are disabled. Each will obtain a monthly government allocation of 200 yuan ($24) for cooking, cleaning, shopping, washing, repairing, caring, escorting, and psychological solace and rehabilitation exercise services. All the services will be provided by former laid-off workers.
