An AC311 helicopter made a demonstration flight at the opening ceremony of the 1st China Helicopter Expo held in
AVIC Helicopter Research and Development Institute revealed that the first three AC311 light utility helicopters have been officially delivered to its customers on Jun 28, which marks the beginning of the formal operational stage of domestic civil helicopter.
Jointly researched and developed by the institute and Changhe Aircraft Industry (Group) Co., Ltd., AC311 is known as the "air elf" for its multiple advantages. Its maximum takeoff weight reaches 2.2 tons, and its cruise speed can be as fast as
AC311 helicopter implements the latest international airworthiness standard. In 2012, it obtained the type certificate and production certificate issued by Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), and passed the evaluation conducted by Aircraft Evaluation Group (AEG) under the strictest operating standards.
Wu Qirong, deputy director of the institute, showed his confidence that the successful delivery of the first China-made civilian helicopters will accumulate more experience for future design, development and use of Chinese helicopters.
