As the Chinese economy moves forward rapidly, the aviation industries cooperation between Mainland China and Hong Kong as well as Macau has become much closer, especially to fill in the historical gap of in-direct-flight between Taiwan and Mainland China. Now, after the March 2008 election in Taiwan, the direct flight, trade and communications between Taiwan and Mainland China is becoming a reality.This will not only result in ice-breaking the aviation industries cooperation between Taiwan and Mainland China, but also advance the economic development of the entire Greater China, including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. Hence, a new "Special Economic Zone of Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan (GHMT)" has been proposed by economists and industries specialists to build an even stronger economic entity for Greater China to promote cross-strait cooperation and development.
Zhuhai, the romantic city of China located next to Hong Kong and Macau, and geographically the most ideal air logistics center of Asia Pacific, is known to the world aviation industries for her bi-annual China Air Show (or China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition) since 1996. Following the completion of a series of ground and sea transportation network construction integrating Zhuhai City and proximity -- including Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, Guangzhou-Zhuhai Rail (mainly for cargo), and Guangzhou-Zhuhai Inter-City Rapid Transit Systems (for passenger), and the tight cooperation and resource sharing in air transportation between Hong Kong International Airport and Zhuhai Airport, Zhuhai will soon become the pivot of transportation network linking the Southwest Region of Mainland China and Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan. In the meantime, Zhuhai will continue to her role to develop Pearl-River-Delta Extended Metropolitan Region.
On December 14, 2007, Zhuhai Aviation Industries Park, strongly supported by the government, was approved by the Development and Reform Commission of Guangdong Province to make Zhuhai the official regional base in cultivating and developing aviation manufacturing industries. Moreover, Zhuhai Aviation Industries Park is required to become domestically and globally influential and competitive in aviation manufacturing industries base bundling industries, academics and research. Now, Zhuhai Aviation Industries Park has followed the requirement of “global focus and high starting point” as well as insisted in the principle of “comprehensive planning, stepwise implementation, and rolling development” for project advancement.
